alertFire season closures may apply: find out what attractions are affected for each fire danger rating here.

Reptiles are both common and protected within Whiteman Park, with 38 species having been recorded here.

The most prolific species are skinks - from the small fence skink (Cryptoblepharus plagiocephalus) to the larger king skinks, bobtails and Western bluetongues – of which there are 16 species. There are also seven snake species, as well as monitors (goannas), dragon lizards, legless lizards, geckoes, and the resident long-necked turtle.

Those that live above ground enjoy warming up on the hard surfaces and may be spotted doing so on the pathways and roads throughout the Park, particularly after the chill of winter.

Interestingly, they aren’t just active in the heat of the day – or just on warm days either – as many reptiles will be out in search of a meal, even on cooler nights.
